For our Citizens Corner this morning we get to understand and breakdown the Mineral Resources Development Bill, known as the Mining Bill. It is currently open for public comment in an effort to transform the sector. As much as we are discussing the Bill, we are also using the opportunity to speak to communities that are affected by disasters that occur in mining areas. One recent example is the Jaggersfontein dam disaster. This year marks 3 years in September when the tailings dam at the Jaggersfontein diamond mine collapsed claiming lives and damaging houses. So what is it that citizens living in these areas should know and how can they get involved and hold mining companies accountable for disasters?
